Swedish-A blend of oils or creams are applied onto the body and firmly, but gently worked into the muscles to release and ease tension, improve blood and lymphatic circulation and increase joint and muscle mobility. Swedish massage can be relaxing, therapeutic, stimulating and grounding.
Shiatsu-Derived from traditional Oriental medical theory, Shiatsu is the practice of applying the fingers and hands along the points and meridians (energy pathways) of acupuncture to balance the energy in the body. Some benefits include stimulating the circulation, promoting harmonious functioning of the nervous system and suppleness in the muscular tissues, stimulating the normal functioning of the internal organs and simply creating a feeling of well being.
Foot Reflexology-A science and an art based on the principle that there are reflex points in the feet that correspond to every gland, organ, and body part. When gentle pressure and massage are applied to these points the benefits include: stress reduction, improved circulation and purification which in turn revitalizes the energy and balances the whole system. Deeply relaxing.
Prenatal Massage-Swedish style bodywork focusing on the common imbalances occurring during pregnancy. The entire back, hip joints, legs, feet, issues of water retention and anything else the mother-to-be is feeling will be addressed. Deep work on contra-indicated pregnancy points is avoided. This is also a wonderful way for the pregnant woman to feel complete, since in most cases the belly is usually the focus for the duration of the pregnancy.
Craniosacral Therapy - through very gentle hand pressure (about the weight of a nickel) the practitioner assists your body's "inner physician" in adjusting any imbalances in the spine, skull bones and surrounding tissues within. Gentle, yet powerful releases can be obtained through this type of work and continue for days thereafter. I recommend this type of treatment for people having experienced traumas like car accidents and falls. Migraine sufferers find this treatment eases and sometimes rids the migraine completely. This treatment can also be extremely helpful for emotional trauma as well.
Deep tissue massage is especially helpful for chronically tense and contracted areas such as stiff necks and shoulders, and back tightness, although this can be applied anywhere the person is feeling tension, blocked circulation or limited movement. Slower, deeper pressure is applied to break down adhesions with the goal being pain relief as well as restoring normal movement.
